CHAPTER 3: THE ROLES OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN LEARNING

Educational technology had aid learning in two ways— the Traditional and the Constructivist way. From the traditional point of view, technology serves as a teacher. It presents information and knowledge the same way teachers do. It serves as delivery vehicles for instructional lessons. On the other hand, from the constructivist perspective, technology is considered as a partner in the learning process. In other words, we learn with technology and not from technology. It is a like a give and take relationship where technology presents knowledge and the learner shares what he/she knows or the learning he/she gained through technology.
There are 5 roles of technology in the learning process from the constructivist perspective, they are:
·        Technology as tools to support knowledge construction
·        Information vehicles for exploring knowledge to support learning by constructing
·        Context to support learning by doing
·        Social medium to support learning by conversing
·        Intellectual partner to support learning by reflecting
